Basic Cheese Fondue Recipe
Fondue has a rich history as well as it has a rich taste. In the past, it was eaten mainly by peasants in Switzerland. The word Fondue is French for “to melt”. This menu addition came to our part of the world in the early sixties. Since then it has become a favorite and a must have for the party scene. We have seen many different variations of the fondue since it was first introduced but the plain cheese fondue is still said to be one of the best by many people. It is usually used as a dip for chips, bread or fruit. The bread most widely used is French bread and people like to dip fruits like apples, pears and bananas as well as others.
As I said before, there are many varieties of fondue so you can find a recipe that will have a distinctive taste that you will love, containing any ingredient from wine to seasoning and the type of cheese you prefer. Here is a simple cheese fondue recipe. Bon Apetite!
Ingredients:
1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 can regular sized beer
2 tbsp flour
Salt and pepper to taste
Fruits or bread for dipping
Procedure:
Mix all ingredients except the last in a fondue set. Turn on and set to medium low heat, stir the mixture every now and then until you get your desired consistency (fluid). Serve this with a side plate of the bread or fruits that you have chosen. If you don’t have a fondue set and are using the stove, you will need to control the heat level at all times. If the cheese melts too quickly it will give the fondue an uneven taste.
If this is for a party you can place the fondue in a fondue fountain and arrange the dipping items around the pot.
