Business Social Networking Sites
Networking sites are grouped into social and business networking sites. They are basically internet based and have many members thus creating online communities that are virtual by nature. The members create their user profiles that make them inter-connect with other members within the community. One community, face book, has well over 50 million members who use their Facebook login password to access it. Facebook is also used by coupon sites such as Groupon to promote their special offer coupons online.
Ecademy.com is used basically by business owners to get business connection to share business information and also gets contacts of other business members. Businesses within the business network communicate by means of private messaging (PM), contrary to sending e-mail messages, only that the target username is specified, instead of an e-mail address. Private messages can be sent to more than one user simultaneously; however social networking sites limit the number of people to receive one single private message.
Many sites consider very high confidentiality when it comes to their members’ e-mail addresses, thus the messages are sent in an encrypted web based manner, so that the email address is not displayed. On other sites however, users have a choice of making their addresses publicly viewable. When contacting members who are a number of certain degrees away, there might be a restriction as well.
This could be a setting that applies to the whole site, or a degree number, that the user specifies. Some websites keep information from users’ profiles on their chat or SMS client accounts, without providing any integrated application that can send messages using the provided services.
The virtual card or the vCard is another user to user communication. With the vCard, information found on a traditional business card is automatically exchanged; no text limitation and can include photos, hyperlinks, and company logos, amongst other features.
