Fixing a Blender: What you need to know
Blenders are surely great and diverse appliances. You can use them to make all kinds of things, such as soups, margaritas, protein shakes, and even peanut butter if you have a powerful enough machine. Given the low price tag that some of these blenders carry, they are an amazing value. That said, a cheap blender is made up of a bunch of cheaper parts, and these plastic and rubber pieces will eventually wear out and break, which will render your blender useless until fixed. While many people just toss it in the landfill and buy another one, it is actually very easy to fix most problems in blenders.
The most common problem that people see is that liquid seeps out of the base of the blender. When this happens, the culprit is usually one little piece: the blender gasket. While you might think that your blender is broken, in many cases the gasket is just placed in the wrong location. Make sure that you have the gasket sitting directly between the rotor blade and the blender jar. Since the rotor is made of metal, it needs that little rubber ring to ensure a water-tight fit. A common problem is that the little gasket is nowhere to be found. Maybe someone in the house took it apart to wash it, and misplaced the little thing. Luckily, they are easy enough to find a replacement for. All you need to do is find out what brand your blender is, and do an internet search like “Osterizer blender parts”. Make sure you put you blender’s brand name in the search. It is important to get the right gasket, since the sizes can vary from company to company and might not fit if you get the wrong one. If you really can’t find one, try contacting the company that made your unit. They should be able to get one to you.
