Getting Ready For Your Presentation or Lecture
It’s said that public speaking is among the biggest fears of people. It’s is quite understandable. It might come from some incident in your childhood wherein simply reporting in front of class was a traumatizing experience, or you’re simply not comfortable standing in front of a lot of people and having them hang on to your every word, or maybe you’re afraid that you will say the wrong thing and that no one will understand you. Whatever it is that concerns you, a little preparation will always help, and knowing your topic inside out and having the right tools and materials on hand will help you get your point across much more clearly.
The same problems affect anyone who is about to deliver a presentation at work. Not only should you make a solid case for whatever you are reporting on, but your career could also be affected by your presentation, and you could potentially make an impact on any current or upcoming projects. Prior to the presentation, make sure that you have everything you need. Be sure that you know everything there is to know about what you will be presenting so you’re prepared for any questions. Your Powerpoint slides, if you will be using them, must be well organized and contain only the most pertinent details. The full report that you will be submitting to the higher-ups must be printed and bound; plastic spiral binding will be your friend in this case, because it can keep thick pages filed neatly, along with the covers.
If you are a lecturer, you are faced with the task of imparting knowledge to your students or participants. You must be sure that you are presenting the right information to them, because it is something they will use in their careers further down the line. Make sure that you the right visual aids to further highlight your point, and use various materials that will sustain interest in your topic and support your ideas. You can also consider printing out a booklet with the important points of your lectures. It’s easy to just pass out handouts every class, but these handouts can be quite easily discarded. A carefully made booklet, with complete information and put together using saddle stitch binding, will be sure to last longer and that it won’t be carelessly thrown away by students.
Having all the right supplies won’t necessarily rid you of your apprehension about speaking in public. But they will be great supplements on your topic, and contribute to better understanding of what you are about to lecture on.
