Motion Plus for the Wii

Wii Motion Plus is an expansion for the video game controller Wii Remote for the Wii game that allows the player to accurately control complex motion. The Wii Motion plus was announced in a press conference for Nintendo on July 14 2008. On May 9 2010 Nintendo announched that it would include Wii Sports Resort game and the Motion Plus with new consoles with absolutely no additional prices.

This device currently incorporates a sort of dual axis tuning fork gyroscope and also a single axis gyroscope which can determine all forms of rotational motion. This is very important because all the information that is captured by this angular rate sensor can be used to tell true linear motion from all the accelermoter readings. This is used to great effect because it allows for the capture of much more complex movements than were possible with the Wii Remote alone, making the Wii a much more effective and fun gaming experience.

The Motion Plus also features a very effective pass-through External Extension Connector, which allows other differenct expansions such as the Classic Controller and Nunchuck to be used at the same time with the device. For locking the Clip release this device has a color-coded mechanical slide switch to be used for locking clip release.

The device only works to be used with games that were specially developed to use this functionality. However it can be attached to the Wii when playing games that do not support it without causing any problems, yet it will not enhance the gameplay in any way. This device must be detached when using other accessories for the Wii remote such as the Wii wheel or Wii Zapper and when using most of the third party peripherals, Like the guitar hero controllers.

The Wii motion plus is a fantastic addition to the Wii gaming experience. Without a doubt the Wii would not function as well without the motion plus.
