Watch Boxes for Watch Collectors
I like to collect watches. I am not exactly sure why, but I can tell you that it started when I inherited my father’s watch collection which included several family heirlooms that have been handed down from generation to generation. I think there are many reasons why I like to collection watches. I always remember my father and grandfather wearing watches and thinking how sophisticated and regal they looked. Of course in those days if you wanted to know the time there weren’t many alternatives like there are today with phones, PDA’s and every other electronic item under the sun that that tells us the time. Additionally, I think that I am infatuated with the inner workings of watches which is why I prefer the older and more tradition type that needs to be wound.
Even though I have been collecting watches for years, I have not always taken great care of them until recently. For the most part I just let them sit in my drawer and each day I would choose a watch to wear along with my suit. Since they were just floating around in my dresser drawer, the watch faces were starting to get scratched and some that I had not worn for a while were even starting to tarnish. So for my birthday, my wife purchased a large watch box for me to store and showcase all of my watches. Although I love watches, I never knew that men’s jewelry boxes were made exclusively to store watches in. However, now that I have one, I am not sure how I ever got along without it.
The watch box that I have is made of dark mahogany wood and is appointed with a soft suede interior lining. It is capable of storing up to 16 watches with eight of my finest watched perched in the top compartment under a large glass window so that I can admire them daily. The other 5 that I have are stored in the drawer beneath. Since I like manually wound watches and have only 2 battery operated watches, my wife purchased a watch box that includes an automatic watch winder. Capable of running off of batteries or standard AC power, the automatic watch winder ensures that my manual watches are continually wound and ready to go. Since my watches are now properly stored, they are no longer getting scratch in my dresser drawer and I have noticed that the watch bands are maintained and kept in a perfect round position. Additionally, I have cleaned the tarnished watches and now keep them stored with moisture absorbing packs that I keep in my watch box (like those found in pill bottles) to ensure they are kept under the proper humidity and will not tarnish in the future. Taking care of my watch collection and family heirlooms so that I can pass them down to future generations is important to me and my new watch box has provided the perfect way to accomplish that.
So if you are a watch collector like I am and you want to properly care for your watches so they are not getting damaged, you may want to consider a watch box for proper storage and care. A watch box not only provides for proper storage, however, it also offers an elegant way for you to store your watch collection and add to the décor your bedroom while providing a bit of class of sophistication.
