What the treeless saddle does to the horse
The treeless saddle, the seat for horseback riding, is built on materials that will effectively provide the proper cushioning on the horse’s back without having to suffer from pressure points that are commonly encountered with the teed saddles. A treed saddle, the more traditional saddle, has an inbuilt tree made of wood or steel that works to clear off the horse’s spine. This method may not cause direct pressure on the spine but it will definitely cause discomfort and a great deal of pain on the horse’s back because wood or steel is never flexible to move along the horse’s movement when it makes turns or when it jumps.
The treeless type do not have the wooden or steel trees but instead, they have thick panels made of foam, leather, vinyl, or fleece that work to cushion the backs of the horses. The issue addressed by treeless critics is that it makes a closer contact between the horse and its riders, which they say will give more pressure as the spine will have to bear the rider’s weight and eventually result to swollen back. This is hardly the case. Basically, the use of the treeless has an additional requirement of using saddle pads to help avoid the saddle from rubbing against the horse’s back thereby preventing discomfort or injury. For the rider who weighs heavier the strategy here is to add more pads underneath before placing the saddle.
To summarize it all, any brand such as the Torsion, Mansur, Fit form, and Barefoot treeless saddle allows the horse to move freely, be more comfortable when ridden, and be not restricted by solid and rigid materials that will likely cause injury on its back, shoulders, and spine. The adjustment will now depend on the skills of its rider to make sure that while the horse has all the efficient and comfortable tools to make a great performance whether for pleasure or competitive riding, its rider is competent enough to make the appropriate and timely leg cues.
